Description:  Initially reviewed here.  We stayed on site 64  (30A) which was quite soggy since it had rained for about 2 weeks solid.  The other loop was a lot drier.  We love the paved bike path by Lake Erie.

Activities:  We stopped here on our way to Maine so that Pam could experience Lake Erie a bit.  The cg isn’t all that special but we do like to bike by Lake Erie.

Trash and Recycle:  Several small dumpsters are spread out in the cg and a recycle bin that takes everything is located near the main bathhouse.  Laundry also in the main bathhouse.

Description:  We followed the signs for trucks and parked on the Gardening Center side.  Another motorhome stayed overnight along with a couple of trucks.  We noticed a couple of fifth wheels in the main parking lot too.  A few restaurants within easy walking distance.

Activities:  We didn’t find a convenient rv park for an overnighter so we pulled in at this Walmart conveniently located at exit 169 from I-71.  After checking in at the customer service desk, we shopped for a few supplies.  We then walked over to Applebees for supper.  Considering that we were close to I-71, we all slept well.  Guess we were tired.

 

Dog Creek CG (Nolin River Lake COE), Cub Run, KY

Description:  Campground is about 20 miles from I-65 down some curvy, hilly roads.  No nearby grocery and no Verizon signal for phone or internet.  Paved roads and gravel sites.  Some tent sites without water or electric while some other sites have water and electric (some 30A and some 50A).  We were in waterfront site B22 which is ADA so we had a concrete pad and porch with 50A and water.  The lake is more like a river.

Activities:  There are many caves in this area but we spent a day at Mammoth Cave National Park and did the Mammoth Passage Tour.  It’s a dry cave so there aren’t very many formations but there are almost 400 miles of known passages.  We drove the back way to the Park which meant riding a small ferry over the Green River.  It only holds 3 cars.  Beautiful rolling hills in this countryside.  Tree limbs draped across the road in the National Park.  We would not be able to fit into the cg there.

Trash and Recycle:  Garbage bin near the exit (not a dumpster).  No recycle.

Description:  Very nice and clean commercial park convenient to I-65 and Mammoth Cave National Park.  I enjoyed their relaxing landscaping and exercise equipment in the 24 hour lounge area of the office.  Separate clubhouse for small rallys.  We were in site 5 but they are all about the same.  Gravel roads and pads with FHU (50A) are great for big rigs.  Busy highway nearby but quiet at night.  Railroad tracks real close by also but not too busy.  Owners live on site in a nice doublewide.  Very clean restrooms and laundry in the office building.

Activities:  We celebrated Pam’s birthday at a local recommended restaurant (Sahara’s Steakhouse… great!).  Went into Bowling Green for the day and enjoyed a boat ride in Lost River Cave.  Lots of caves in the area but the small boat was unique.  Enjoyed the nice nature trails there and butterfly house.  Bowling Green is a pretty area with rolling hills.

Trash and Recycle:  Leave your trash bag by the campsite and it’s picked up by 10:00am.  They will also recycle your drink cans if they are bagged separately.

Description:  Only 10 miles from downtown Nashville but a world away.  Paved roads and parking pads.  Water and electric (50A) with nice views of J Percy Priest Lake.  One loop with 60 sites that are all reservable (no walk-ins so no open weekends).  We were in site 35.  Nice gate attendants.  Clean swim beach and boat ramp within cg and day use picnic area and boat ramp near by.  Tight dump station for big rigs.  Large sites with privacy, for the most part.

Activities:  We met our summer hitchhiker Pam (Gin’s cousin) here.  Her friend Danny had driven here from NC to drop off the recent retiree who will join us for about three months.  We basically relaxed and talked at our beautiful site on the lake.  We would have loved to stay here longer but this place was booked solid for the weekend.  They don’t have a single walk-in site.  The squirrels are quite tame.  We tossed out peanuts and they ran with them.  Nice place for a jog or bike ride with slight hills.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpsters and recycle bin near exit (aluminum cans and plastic bottles).

Description:  Even though it’s a bit hilly, all of the sites are level.  Some, like ours, had the utilities on the ‘wrong’ side of the site.  Nice paved roads with most sites on large concrete pads with water and electric (50A).  We stayed on site 28 which is a pull-thru on a paved pad and is waterfront with beautiful panoramic views of Enid Lake.  Real easy access from I-55.  It was very windy but that may have been due to the time of year and the open lakefront site.  If you have reservations, be sure you know your site number since no one works at the gate.

Activities:  Very laid back atmosphere here.  We really enjoyed relaxing in our lounge chairs, listening to the birds and watching the water.  Enid Lake has an earthen dam and was built for flood control.  We enjoyed the nearby North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and Visitors Center.  The town of Batesville, MS is about 10 miles north on I-55 and has many stores for supplies.

Trash and Recycle:  No recycle but three dumpsters near the dump station at the exit.
