Description:  Close to the Florida state line near exit 7 off I-95, it’s a great stopover on our way south.  We have stopped here several times before and will return.  Gravel roads and sites which are narrow but FHU.  We stayed on site A14 right across from the pool.

Activities:  It was a long drive here from Gaffney, SC so we just rested.  Coffee and donuts at the clubhouse made our morning departure a little sweeter.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Factory Service Center, Gaffney, SC

Date of Stay:  Tuesday September 29 – Thursday October 1,2015 (2 nights)

Rate:  yearly service

Website:  Freightliner Custom Chassis Factory Service Center
   103 Campus Drive
   Gaffney, SC 29341
   855-253-0421

Description:  This is where many diesel pushers are born, ours included.  There are 6 work bays and 20 rv sites with 50A electric hookup.  We were on site 15.  Dump station and water take on as you enter (or exit) the facility.  Easy to get to from I-85 (exit 92).  Decent waiting room with morning coffee provided.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster on site.

Activities:  We came here a few years ago to the class they offer for the owners of the coaches with Bill and Nancy. They have been here for service since then and recommend it versus Lazydays. Since we had trouble with Tawanda overheating during the summer, we wanted to get a thorough checkup.  The service is much faster and better at a better overall price.  Arrived Tuesday afternoon for a Wednesday morning appointment and left Thursday morning.  We spent the day in the lounge although there is a shopping mall nearby.

RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Date of Stay:  Thursday September 3 – Tuesday September 29, 2015

Rate:  $575/month

Website:  RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads
   415 Wallace Fork Road
   Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870
   252-538-9776

Description:  Reviewed several times in the past.  We stayed on our usual site (P8).  All sites are level with 50A FHU.  Most are pull thru so this is a popular over nighter about a mile from I-95 (exit 171).

Activities:  We basically did family visiting and unwinding at the MH.  Gin got on the roof and put some Eternabond around the shower skylight.  The pool here is always inviting on a hot late summer day.

Trash and Recycle:  They pick up your trash by 10:00 if you leave it curbside or take it to the dumpster in the rear of the park yourself.  We found a comingled recycle bin at the Aquatic Center in town near Mom’s so we used the convenience when visiting with her.

Date:  Sunday August 30 - Thursday September 3, 2015 (4 nights)

Rate:  $38/night

Website:  James River State Park (VA)
   104 Green Hill Drive
   Gladstone, VA 24553
   434-933-4355

Description:  Paved roads with level dirt/gravel wooded sites having W/E (50A).  Located in the middle of nowhere off of narrow Virginia secondary roads, we were surprised to get good Verizon reception.  We stayed on site 15 which is a long pull-thru.  As with other VA State Parks, we picked our site once we arrived.  Very wooded so the rooftop dish didn't work.  Good thing Gin was able to set up our portable one.  Also several nice cabins (houses really) in the park and separate camping for horse lovers.

Trash and Recycle: Dumpster near the dump station at the exit.  Didn't notice any recycle.

Activities:  On our way here, the MH cut off in the middle of Hwy 211 on the way to I-85 near New Market.  We will have our cooling system checked thoroughly at Freightliner in September.  Like other VA state parks, there are very nice hiking trails here so I took advantage of them.  There is a canoe livery on site where you can rent a kayak/canoe and they also have a shuttle service from one end of the park to the other where there is a nice boat landing.  Maybe next time because the James River looked so inviting.  We enjoyed a visit to the Visitor Center which has nice displays about the history of the area.

Rate:  $44/night

Website:  Shenandoah River State Park (VA)
   350 Daughter of Stars Drive
   Bentonville, VA 22610

Description:  Reviewed earlier here.  Paved roads with level gravel sites having W/E (50A).  We once again stayed on site 10.  Nice hiking trails throughout the park.  Only ding is lack of Verizon coverage.  The price has gone up noticeably too.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster near the dump station at exit.  Recycle bins there also for aluminum and plastic bottles.

Activities:  This is a great place to hike near the river and also in the woods so I took advantage of it.  Sherry and David were staying in the Lewis Mountain CG of the Shenandoah National Park nearby so we drove up to have an enjoyable afternoon/evening visit with them.  I could kick myself for forgetting the camera. On our way home, we saw a beautiful sunset at an overlook and a bear cub ran across Skyline Drive in front of us in the dark.  When we arrived at camp, we had a surprise visit from Tricia and Dan who camped beside us for the night.  They left in the morning on their way to NC.  Gin was able to walk to the river from our campsite and we also rode over to the nice Visitor Center.  A motorcyclist going around a curve had an unfortunate accident with a bear shortly before we arrived.  He injured his shoulder and the bear bounded off into the woods.
