Tanglewood Park Campground, Clemmons , NC

Date of Stay:  Thursday June 1 – Thursday June 8 2017 (7 nights)

Rate:  $33/night

Website:  Tanglewood Park CG
4061 Clemmons Road (HQ address-follow signs to Tanglewood then campground)
   Clemmons, NC 27012
   336-703-6494

Description:  Reviewed several times in the past.  Located near Winston Salem, NC at exit 182 off of I-40, it is near many conveniences.  We stayed on level site 4 and surprisingly received sat tv through the mature tree canopy.  The roads and sites are paved although several sites are very unlevel.  They are all FHU (50A) with digital cable.  This is a very nice county park with many amenities but I really enjoy the 2 mile paved path in the woods.  There is an excellent dog park near the cg and an arboretum, golf course, swimming pool etc. in the park.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster in the back corner of the cg near the camphosts with recycle for cans and bottles.

Activities:  We planned on staying just a couple of nights here but the spring in our driver’s side slide topper broke when we arrived.  We contacted a mobile tech who helped take the material off so that we could travel again.  He also serviced our ac units.  It would take a week before the spring would arrive so we delayed getting it fixed until later in the summer.  We didn’t mind adding a few days here to decompress and enjoy watching the birds and squirrels eat the seed I put on the picnic table for them. I enjoyed taking several walks on the trail in the woods and Gin and I went to the arboretum one afternoon.  I absolutely love this area.  Unfortunately, Gin has gone numb on her left side and lost her taste buds for sweet.  MS can be strange.

John H Moss Lake City Campground, Shelby, NC

Date of Stay:  Thursday October 27 – Thursday November 3, 2016 (1 week)

Rate:  $20/night or $100/week

Website:  John H Moss Lake City Campground
   2621 Oak Grove Road
   Shelby, NC 28150
   704-482-7926

Description:  Although this city lake and cg is Kings Mountain property, it is closer to Shelby, NC.  Even with FHU(50A), the cg is a bit rustic with gravel roads and sites and very wooded.  Surprisingly, we got rooftop sat tv reception.  We stayed on site 21 which was unlevel, as are most of the sites.  We had to park a little crooked towards the rear of our site to be level enough to use all of our pads to level up the rest of the way.  This made us further away from the ill placed utility hook ups so we had to use our 30A extension cord.  The water pressure is very strong so use a pressure regulator so you don’t blow a hole in your hose like we did.  Considerable traffic on Oak Grove Road during the day but quiets down at night.

Trash and Recycle:  Trash cans at every site but no recycle in the cg.  About 2 miles east is a convenient county recycling center.

Activities:  We had wonderful weather here so we simply enjoyed sitting outside and watching the squirrels chase each other amongst the Autumn leaves.  The cg was crowded for Halloween weekend with lots of folks decorating their campers.  I spoke with one gentleman who said that about six families there did this each year.  They had fun in a respectful way.  We stayed here because we would be close to Gaffney, SC (our next stop for service) and the weekly rate was cheap.

Tanglewood Park Campground, Clemmons, NC

Date of Stay:  Monday October 24 – Thursday October 27, 2016 (3 nights)

Rate:  $33/night

Website:  Tanglewood Park CG
4061 Clemmons Road (follow signs to campground)
   Clemmons, NC 27012
   336-703-6494

Description:  Reviewed a couple other times here.  Located near Winston Salem, NC at exit 182 off of I-40, it is near many conveniences.  We were on site 3 which is level.  About half of the sites are extremely unlevel.  The cg has paved roads and large paved sites with FHU (50A) and digital cable under a beautiful canopy of large oak trees.  Acorns did fall on our roof some.  This is in a full service Forsyth County Park that offers a championship golf course, aquatic center, horse stables, tennis, soccer, pond fishing, arboretum, rose garden and a Manor House bed and breakfast.  There’s a two mile paved multi-use trail that winds about in the edge of the forest which has mountain bike trails.  There is a wonderful off-leash dog park near the cg.  (Look for CG signs when you exit from I-40.  Using the address in your gps takes you to the park office instead.)

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster in the back corner of the cg near the camphosts with recycle for cans and bottles.

Activities:  We had reservations at Huntington Beach SP near Myrtle Beach but they were still closed due to Hurricane Matthew damage so we came here for a few nights on our way to Gaffney, SC for service.  I enjoyed biking and walking the popular multi-use trail and rode around in the park.  They have a Festival of Lights here and have spent the past few weeks putting up a very large display of Holiday sparkles.  This will be their 25th year of the festivities in Tanglewood.

Linn County Park, LaCygne, KS

Date of Stay:  Sunday September 11 – Tuesday September 13, 2016 (2 nights)

Rate:  $17/night

Website:  Linn County Park
23095 Valley Road (follow signs to Marina to check in)
   LaCygne, KS 66040
   913-757-6633

Description:  Located in east central Kansas on 2600 acre Lake LaCygne (cooling reservoir for KCPL coal-fired power plant).  No swimming or skiing allowed, only fishing boats.  We stayed on site 112 in View Point Loop next to some permanent residents.  There’s no stay limit here so some sites are very messy.  Paved roads with gravel sites having W/E, mostly 30A but a few 50A like ours.  Check in at the Marina to see which ones are available at this all first come first serve cg.  They even have a few FHU sites but I imagine they are all taken by the residents.  Nice dump station located in the back of the park along with a few rustic cabins.  We enjoyed a waterfront site but there were many 30A sites available in a more wooded setting in several different loops.  There are about 113 sites here.

Trash and Recycle:  Trash cans located throughout the park for every 3 – 4 campsites.  No recycle.

Activities:  Not much to do here but it is a nice place to walk and see deer and wild turkey in the wooded area.  There is a fish feeder in our cove that goes off automatically.  We noticed it at 1:00 and 4:00, and some huge catfish love it.  Nearby small town had a decent grocery store and Dollar General but not much else.  They say that cygnet swans show up here occasionally.  That would have been awesome to see.
