Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on site P12 for the first week then moved to our favorite site P8 for the remainder of our time. Both have gazebos but P8 is a little bigger. This is a FHU(50A) park just off I-95 at exit 171. Most sites and roads are gravel but there are some premium sites that are paved with paved sites.
Trash and Recycle: Put your trash by the road in the morning and they pick it up. No recycle here but we take ours to a bin in town near Mom’s.
Activities: We always do the family thing here, but just getting here was interesting. Since Hurricane Irma was coming, we left Franklin, NC at 9:00am and drove the 392 miles straight here without an overnight stop. We got here at 10:00pm. What took so long? We blew a tire on the truck (toad) less than 50 miles into our day! Thank goodness our tire pressure monitor caught it or else I would have kept driving and ruined the rim. We called our road side assistance service and a wrecker towed the truck to a nearby mom and pop tire store. Gin stayed with Tawanda at the exit ramp and I had four new tires installed (needed new ones anyway). That took us a few extra hours but we’re so glad it happened early in the day. While here in RoRap, we spent quality time with our folks. Gin’s dad is having some more difficulties breathing and has his ups and downs. Mom lost her last two siblings to cancer this past summer so she is a little down about that. I did drive her and Aunt Lola to Johnston County to visit my aunts and uncle. My siblings all got together at Mom’s and it’s good to visit with them too. We had Mom, Doug and Carla join us at the rv park for a nice steak dinner in the gazebo. We also visited D&T in Youngsville for his birthday. Unfortunately, Brandon and Amanda were elsewhere with Bennett. Hopefully we can meet the baby some other time.

Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on site P12 which has a gazebo and is near the pool (to cool and rainy to use it this time). We were very lucky to get a spot actually. Since we are regular customers, the manager called us in February to say that his monthly sites were filling up with workers who were putting a gas pipeline in the area. There were rallys here on two weekends and several other nights there was no vacancy for over night guests.
Trash and Recycle: Put your trash bag by the road in the morning and they pick it up. No recycle here but we take ours to a bin in town near Mom’s.
Activities: We did the family thing here of course. Gin’s mom is doing good and her dad is doing amazingly well after his stroke a couple of winters ago (along with severe COPD). My mom is good too. Her remaining two siblings are fighting cancer though. Hard to do when you are about 90 years old. I had some mother/daughter time with her and drove to Johnston County so she could visit with them. I also took her to the local farmer’s market a couple of time. Bill and Nancy contacted us to say that they were stopping here on their way north. It just happened to be on our last day here so we fixed supper for them and had a good chatty visit with them. Our summer travels will be quite different this year. We will stay in the NC mountains at a few commercial parks for monthly stays. Gin is having dizzy spells and it is getting difficult for her to travel.

Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on a different site again this time (site P12) which is one row back from the pavement, has a gazebo, and is close to the pool. The park is very popular as an overnighter at exit 171 on I-95. Sites are mostly pull-thru with 50A FHU and cable. The back area was full again with long term workers building a plant in the area. Hurricane Matthew came through about the first week of October and I-95 was closed in southern NC due to flooding for about three weeks. This led to more folks staying longer than they normally would have.
Trash and Recycle: Put your bag out in the morning and they pick it up our take it to the dumpster in the back of the park in the afternoon. No recycle here but we take ours into town when we visit Mom.
Activities: This is a nice place to relax while we visit family, mine in Roanoke Rapids and Gin’s in Rocky Mount. Hurricane Matthew blew through with lots of rain during the middle of our stay. We had another small world moment here. When we were driving out to go to RM, we saw Jim and Linda pulling in with their travel trailer and Big Red. We turned around and greeted them at check in. They got the site right beside us and we visited for a while before going on to RM. They were on their way from the Raleigh area to Virginia Beach and knew that it was dry here versus their usual route through Williamston. Tricia and Dan also came up from Youngsville to visit for the day. We had a lot of catching up to do and it couldn’t wait until Cedar Key!

Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on a different site this time (siteP4). It’s closer to the office and pool but still has a gazebo. This is a popular overnighter near I-95 at exit 171. Most sites are pull thrus and all are level with 50A FHU. A lot less long term workers here this time.
Trash and Recycle: Put your bag by the road in the morning and they pick it up. No recycle here but we take ours to a bin in town near Mom’s.
Activities: This is always family time for us. We got here on Mother’s Day weekend and left after Memorial Day (which was quite busy). We have found out through conversations with other rv’ers that a lot of people that travel the east coast to Florida are familiar with this park. The folks that stayed in front of us at CK for a month (Trish and Carroll) pulled in here for a few nights on their way up north. Small world indeed.

Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on our usual site (P8). All sites are level with 50A FHU. Most are pull thru so this is a popular over nighter about a mile from I-95 (exit 171).
Activities: We basically did family visiting and unwinding at the MH. Gin got on the roof and put some Eternabond around the shower skylight. The pool here is always inviting on a hot late summer day.
Trash and Recycle: They pick up your trash by 10:00 if you leave it curbside or take it to the dumpster in the rear of the park yourself. We found a comingled recycle bin at the Aquatic Center in town near Mom’s so we used the convenience when visiting with her.

Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on our usual site (P8). I’m glad we made reservations a few days ahead because this place has been packed just about every night. Several more sites are now set aside for long term occupants who work temporarily in the area. They are kept clean but it does feel different here since it’s crowded even during the day.
Activities: This was a relaxing few weeks visiting with family. We took Gin’s mom to the outlets in Smithfield one day and we dropped in to visit with our one-time neighbor Kelly who works at the Chamber of Commerce building there. It was nice to catch up with her. My mom is doing pretty darn good at the age of 87. I hope I have her longevity genes. Our neighbors from Cedar Key (Dave and Julie) live in Bracey, Va. came by for a nice visit one day.

Description: Reviewed several times in the past. We stayed on sites P23 and P8 (our favorite). Gravel road and pad with FHU (50A) and cable. Some sites are paved with paved roads around them (extra cost). Several long term monthly sites around the perimeter of the park. Very nice pool and spa. Club house in the office area good to host small rallys.
Activities: Time with family is important. This is a nice commercial park for us to relax at between visits with folks. We got here just before Labor Day so our favorite site was already booked. We stayed on another site inside the park until our spot emptied and moved to P8 for the next three weeks. Several towns have artsy statues of local flavor and Roanoke Rapids is no different. The Roanoke River Valley claims to be the Striped Bass (Rockfish) Capital so there are several large fish in the area. Two are on display on Roanoke Avenue, one at the library and one at the fire station. I love the smaller fish that looks like a Dalmatian dog.

Activities: It’s all about time with family. I’m glad that I was able to take Mom to a doctor in Durham a couple of times for minor stuff. We spent the night with Gin’s parents in Rocky Mount a couple of times along with a few day visits there also. The pool here is heated and we enjoyed relaxing in it several times. I rode with my brother, his wife and Mom to his place in White Oak Shores for the day during the Memorial Day weekend. He and his wife bought a park model trailer there with a screened porch and Florida room last Fall and have really enjoyed it. Another way that we broke up the month was a visit with D&T and B&N one day to ride our bikes on the Neuse River Greenway Trail in Raleigh.

Description: Reviewed initially here. We stayed on site P8 which is on the end of the road and has a gazebo. Gravel road and pad kept the price lower than last month. Teresa and Mike gave us the monthly rate even though we were here for quite a bit less. Since there is no meter on this site, I paid $50 for electricity.
Activities: Back to homebase to finish up with my crowns. More visiting with family and older parents made us realize that it would be best for us to stop here in both the Spring and the Fall if possible. We had a brief surprise visit from Jack and Donna from Lazy Days who had stopped by for an overnighter.

Description: Reviewed initially here. We stayed on site D15 which is on the end of a road and has a paved parking pad. Teresa and Mike who manage the office had made some changes here since our last visit. The office now has a small rv supply store. They also charge electricity for the usual monthly sites. We were on a site that didn’t have a meter so they charged us a flat $50.
Activities: This is our NC homebase so we spent lots of time visiting family. I was glad that Doug took care of my teeth. Dr.Tedder in Rocky Mount did the root canal while Doug put in three gold crowns. Gin’s family had a welcome home/birthday party. Pam had been with us for two months so there were lots of stories to share.

Description: Reviewed earlier here. We stayed on site P32 which is on the end of the row for about 3 weeks and then moved to site P24 which is on the end of a row and has a gazebo. We enjoyed the shade.
Activities: This RV Park is all about location. It is close to our family so this will always be our home base when we visit. We enjoyed the pool some this time. Gin had an appointment to get some new glasses but that didn’t pan out. We stayed a few extra days to visit with Bill, Nancy and her Mom as they stopped here for the night on their way to Philadelphia.
