Freightliner Custom Chassis Factory Service Center, Gaffney, SC

Date of Stay:  Tuesday September 29 – Thursday October 1,2015 (2 nights)

Rate:  yearly service

Website:  Freightliner Custom Chassis Factory Service Center
   103 Campus Drive
   Gaffney, SC 29341
   855-253-0421

Description:  This is where many diesel pushers are born, ours included.  There are 6 work bays and 20 rv sites with 50A electric hookup.  We were on site 15.  Dump station and water take on as you enter (or exit) the facility.  Easy to get to from I-85 (exit 92).  Decent waiting room with morning coffee provided.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster on site.

Activities:  We came here a few years ago to the class they offer for the owners of the coaches with Bill and Nancy. They have been here for service since then and recommend it versus Lazydays. Since we had trouble with Tawanda overheating during the summer, we wanted to get a thorough checkup.  The service is much faster and better at a better overall price.  Arrived Tuesday afternoon for a Wednesday morning appointment and left Thursday morning.  We spent the day in the lounge although there is a shopping mall nearby.

Activities:  We just stayed here for a one night stopover along I-95.  We washed several loads of clothes since we had FHU.  We don't plan on staying here again however.

Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, SC

Date of Stay:  Monday October 29 - Tuesday November 13, 2012 (15 nights)

Rate: $32/night

Website:  Huntington Beach State Park (SC)
   16148 Ocean Hwy
   Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
   843-237-4440

Description:  We have camped here many times before.  Just south of Myrtle Beach but very natural ocean front setting.  Nice nature center, hiking trails, undeveloped beach, Atalaya Castle and paved bike path next to Hwy 17.  Paved roads with sand/gravel/grass parking pads.  Most sites are water and 30A electric while there are a few FHU sites.  We stayed on site 19.  The causeway leading to the campground always has beautiful migratory birds this time of year and an occasional alligator.  I could sit for hours just watching them.  The paved bike path is a great place to ride through the woods.  All this and it’s right on the ocean!

Activities:  Lots to do here!  We came here to join several friends for the Second Carolina Clan Gathering.  We all met each other at an RV-Dreams Rally.  It is a great bunch of folks and we had a great week!  Many of us have SeaEagle kayaks and we went to a local boat launch and spent the day on the Waccamaw River Intracoastal Waterway.  Since this was such a big group of folks (about 40), many people did their own things during the day, going out for lunch with other couples, going hiking together or things like that before getting together for a campfire every night.  Our second week here was much quieter since most folks went their separate ways with smiles on their faces.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpsters at the exit near the dump station.  Full service recycle bin there also.

Description:  Dirt roads and not very level sites.  Hilly and very wooded.  30A and water at the site.  We stayed in site 47 which was a challenge to back into.  Not big rig friendly but it is close to Gaffney, SC.  We stayed here with our friends Nancy and Bill so that we could go to the Freightliner Chasis Class since they also had a new Winnebago.

Activities:  Hiking and Geocaching.  A Living History Farm is on the grounds.  Re-enactors were there one day to give it a hands on experience.  Nearby is the Kings Mountain National Military Park with a nice visitor center and paved path up the mountain.  The battle of King’s Mountain was fought in 1780 and it was a pivotal point in the Revolutionary War.
