Description:  About 85 FHU sites all with concrete pads and patios.  Paved roads.  Some sites have shade trees and some don’t.  Average lot size is 45’x80’.  We stayed on site 55 which is a pull-thru.  Nice clubhouse with full kitchen and laundry facilities.  Informal varied activities such as weekly pot luck dinners and card games.  Nice swimming pool will be heated starting in Fall 2013.  About 6 miles from the fishing village of Cedar Key.  Very laid back atmosphere.

Activities:  Our good friends Dan and Tricia bought a lot here last year and had come down to do some landscaping.  Since it was Dan’s 50th birthday, we wanted to surprise him and make sure he took a break.  We enjoyed the pool and getting to know Cliff and Connie, the park managers.  The town of Cedar Key has no fast food joints or major stores.  Dollar General is real close to the park and a small produce stand and small grocery is in town.  Chiefland is about 19 miles away as far as restocking the cupboards go.

Trash and Recycle:  Leave your trash bag at your site and it will be picked up or you can drop it in the dumpster on your way out.  No recycling in the park but Levy county has a recycle bin that accepts everything conveniently located on the right side of the road about half way to Cedar Key (corner of Hwy 24 and 347).

Walkabout Camp and RV Park, Woodbine, GA

Description:  Close to the Florida state line and I-95, it’s a great stopover on our way south.  Gravel roads and parking pads with FHU.  Laundry in the clubhouse and propane sales on property..  Owners have been here since Spring of 2011 and are a young Australian family that lives in the house on the property.  Pet duck, goose and chickens walkabout the camp.  We were on site A14.  They are all pull-thrus and kinda close together but fine for an overnight.  No traffic noise.

Activities:  It was hot so we enjoyed a swim in the pool.  Also played pool in the clubhouse.  I saw 4-5 wild turkeys on my morning walk.  There is an abandoned housing development (just roads, no houses) next door so it’s a good place to jog. 

Trash and Recycle:  A couple of dumpsters and a recycle can at the dumpster.

 

Nice to have an empty site on either side of you.  It fills up during snowbird flight season.

RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Date of Stay:  Tuesday August 13 - Thursday September 18, 2012 (1 month plus a few days)

Description:  Reviewed earlier here.  We stayed on site P32 which is on the end of the row for about 3 weeks and then moved to site P24 which is on the end of a row and has a gazebo.  We enjoyed the shade.

Activities: This RV Park is all about location.  It is close to our family so this will always be our home base when we visit.  We enjoyed the pool some this time.  Gin had an appointment to get some new glasses but that didn’t pan out.  We stayed a few extra days to visit with Bill, Nancy and her Mom as they stopped here for the night on their way to Philadelphia.

Description:  Very near Winston Salem, NC.  Paved roads and parking pads on large sites with FHU (50A) and cable.  Unfortunately, several sites are very unlevel.  Call ahead to make sure there is a level spot.  No problem with that during the week.  Located near I-40 (exit 182) and easy off/on but no traffic noise.  We were on site 2 with a grassy field behind us and the canopy of old oak trees over us.  This is a full service Forsyth County Park that offers a Championship golf course, aquatic center, horse stables, tennis, soccer, pond fishing, arboretum, rose garden and a Manor House bed and breakfast.   Most of these amenities are an extra fee of course.  There’s a two mile paved multi-use trail that winds about the edge of the forest which has mountain bike trails.  (Using the address in your GPS takes you to the park office.  Be sure to look for the CG signs when you exit from I-40 instead.) 

Activities:  This was just a stop over for us but I fell in love with the place.  I went to the arboretum and rose garden in the evening and took time to walk the paved path in the morning.  I saw about 20 deer on that walk.  Great place to bike also.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster in the back corner of the park but several trash cans in amongst the campsites.  A recycle can is at the bathhouse for cans and plastic bottles.

River Plantation RV Park, Sevierville, TN

Description:  Gravel roads and parking pads with FHU (50A) and cable.  They do offer Signature sites which have concrete pads on the Little Pigeon River that borders the park.  A rock quarry is on the other side of the river but not noticeable due to the trees on the bank.  We stayed on site 165 which is a pull-thru in the middle of the park.  Laundry is in the bathhouses.  Swimming pool and LP tank fill also near the office.  They have a nice Conference Center for rallies.   The park is between Sevierville and Pigeon Forge which leads to Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park beyond.  It is a very commercial area with lots of restaurants, shops and live entertainment.  The park itself is relatively quiet.

Activities:  This is a busy area and anything and everything is close by for entertainment.  We have camped here several years ago in Gin’s parent’s Winnebago and again in April 2011 for an RV-Dreams Rally.  In 2011 we spent a day at Cades Cove which is part of the Great Smoky Mountains.  This time we enjoyed a ride on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.  It was like a leisurely hike in the woods without leaving the car.  A young black bear even strolled right in front of us and ignored our presence. 

Trash and Recycle:  A few dumpsters throughout the park.  No recycle bins in the area.

Fort Boonesborough State Park, Richmond, KY

Date of Stay:  Monday August 6 - Wednesday August 8, 2012 (2 nights)

Description:  About 160 sites on paved roads and parking pads.  Water and 50A although we shared a water pedestal with our neighbors Dan and Tricia.  Laundry in the bathhouse and dump station near the exit.  Putt putt is near the camp store and there is a nice swimming pool at the day use area.  We stayed in site 135 which was close to the Kentucky River.  There is an asphalt plant or something across the river but it can’t be seen due to the surrounded wooded areas.  This park is convenient to I-64 and I-75. 

Activities:  This was our last travel stop with Tricia and Dan so we enjoyed one of the nice features of this park which is the working Fort Boonesborough.  It’s a reconstruction of the 1775 fort established by Daniel Boone.  There were several artisans showing us how things were done in pioneer days.  We also enjoyed a nice ride in the countryside amongst the rolling hills.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpsters near the bathhouses.  No recycling noticed.
