Bandits Roost CG (Kerr Scott Lake COE), Wilkesboro, NC

Date of Stay:  Monday June 18 - Tuesday June 26, 2012 (8 nights)

Rate:  $11/night (Access Pass discount)

Website:  Bandits Roost CG
   667 Jess Walsh Rd
   Wilkesboro, NC 28697
   336-921-3190

Description:  Set in the foothills so it is hilly and wooded.  Paved roadways with gravel parking pads.  Fire ring, concrete picnic table, water and 50A at each site.  The lake is popular with motorboats on the weekends.  Small swim area but nice natural setting.  We stayed on site B90 which is a first come site.  There are about 100 sites and 86% are reservable.  Sites could use some work such as adding more gravel to level up and new timber edging.  Two dump stations within the park.

Activities:  Close enough to a nice size town for shopping.  Natural setting so we enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the birds.  Very nice Education Center near the Kerr Scott Dam.  Nice place to take a drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock.  Mountain View Overlook down the road has a beautiful view of the headwaters and lake in the distance.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpsters near the dump stations.  Recycling bin near one of the dumpsters.

Date of Stay:  Friday June 8 - Monday June 18, 2012 (10 nights)

Rate:  $22/night

Website:  Kings Mountain State Park (SC)
   1277 Park Rd
   Blacksburg, SC 29702
   803-222-3209

Description:  Dirt roads and not very level sites.  Hilly and very wooded.  30A and water at the site.  We stayed in site 47 which was a challenge to back into.  Not big rig friendly but it is close to Gaffney, SC.  We stayed here with our friends Nancy and Bill so that we could go to the Freightliner Chasis Class since they also had a new Winnebago.

Activities:  Hiking and Geocaching.  A Living History Farm is on the grounds.  Re-enactors were there one day to give it a hands on experience.  Nearby is the Kings Mountain National Military Park with a nice visitor center and paved path up the mountain.  The battle of King’s Mountain was fought in 1780 and it was a pivotal point in the Revolutionary War.

Trash and Recycle:  Dumpster as you enter the campground.  Also have recycling at entry (cans, plastic, glass and newspaper).

Lazy Days Crown Club, Seffner, FL

Date of Stay:  Thursday May 17 - Wednesday June 6, 2012 (20 nights)

Rate:  Included with purchase of Tawanda

Website:  Lazy Days
   6130 Lazy Days Blvd
   Seffner, FL 33584
   800-350-6728 (service)

Description:  We bought our new motorhome here in January 2012 and had a few warranty issues to take care of.  The Crown Club is a benefit that is good for 3 years.  While we are having service done, we can lounge in a complimentary country club setting with a heated pool and full service breakfast, lunch and happy hour Monday thru Saturday.  Since it is on the grounds of their old campground, we have FHU and paved parking when we’re not in the work bays.  Even there, we have FHU.  Shawn Paul is our service advisor and he stays busy keeping track of about 60 coaches every day.  Service is not quick or cheap ($120/hour) but this is covered by warranty.  The traffic noise is constant.

Activities:  We enjoy the pool and the lovely grounds a lot but we are on the outskirts of Tampa so there is a big variety of choices.

Trash and Recycle:  Leave your trash bag outside at your site and it will be picked up by 10:00am.  No recycling at the dealership but they have a Campground across from Flying J with a recycle bin.  There is also a Hillsborough County Recycle Center across the street from the Campground open Monday- Friday.
